Submission Criteria:-

  • All work must either be purely your own or used with permission. Plagiarism will lead to banning.
  • If you are contributing someone else's work, you must still credit that person and provide his or her contact details. This also applies to work derived from someone else's work. For example, if you make a painting from a reference photograph, you must mention the name and email address/website of the photographer.
  • Any facts or information in your article must be referenced and verified. For example, if you wish to submit an article on art history, make sure all the dates and names are correct. Wikipedia is not acceptable as the sole reference. (Try Encyclopedia.com)
  • The minimum limit for reports and reviews is 100 words whereas the maximum limit is 500 words.The minimum word limit for articles is 250 words.  Articles and stories longer than 1300 words will be divided into parts. Poems longer than 30 verses may be serialized as well. There is no minimum word limit for stories and poems; this is to encourage experimental writers.
  • Images must be no wider than 530 pixels and no more than 3 MB. This applies to photographs, and images of paintings, icons, and other visual media.
  • Video and music clips should be at least 30 seconds and no more than 10 minutes; longer videos will be serialized. Please upload your video to a site such as Youtube and send us the embed code.
  • All work must have a minimum standard of quality: remember to use your spellchecker, make sure videos and sounds are are displaying properly, don't take blurry or poorly-lit photographs of your paintings or other work, and if possible get a friend or family member to give you feedback before you send it to us. Shoddy and careless work will be duly rejected.
  • Horizons supports freedom of expression but not its perversion to suit the purposes of certain people. We respect and celebrate diversity. Racism, hate speech and intolerance are not welcome here. Failure to curb these will lead to banning.
  • We reserve the right to reject any submissions with or without assigning a reason. However, we will try to give feedback even if we reject your work so you may improve and try again.
  • At all times, you will remain the sole copyright owner of your original work. The purpose of Horizons, and the overall aim of Creative Alley, is to promote young artists; therefore consider this a platform on which you can share your work with a wider audience. You may choose to sell or your work to Creative Alley or elsewhere, but publication on Horizons does not imply the transfer of copyright. 
  • By sending us your work, you grant Horizons the right to display it and edit for technical purposes.
How to Submit:-
  1. Email all entries to entries.horizons@yahoo.com
  2. In the subject line, include the name of the department/desk to which you are sending your contribution: Visual Arts, Music, Literature, Digital Arts, Performing Arts, Crafts, Community & Culture, News. 
  3. Also in the subject line, tell us what you are contributing. For example, poetry, video clip, and so on.
  4. In the body of the email, please include: synopsis/brief description of your work; your bio and contact details; credits to anyone who may have inspired you or whose work you are using. For images, music and video clips, please provide the dimensions, size, duration, camera make & model, and any other information as relevant.
  5. Please run a virus and spyware check on your documents and other files before sending them to us. Many email programs and websites have built-in scanners; free software is available for download if you need to remove an infection.
Types of contributions:-
Different types of material are accepted by different departments. The following is a list of some types of work that come under various departments; it is by no means exhaustive, but gives an idea of how we sort the contributions we receive.
  • Visual Arts: paintings, drawings, illustrations, carvings/sculptures, photography, 2-D animation, graphics and comic art created with traditional media or without significant computer-enhancement, how-to techniques, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews,
  • Music: clips, scores, lyrics, how-to techniques, instruments, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews
  • Performing Arts: films, dance, plays, mime, theater including opera, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews 
  • Digital Arts: computer-aided or created visual art, sound and special effects, digitized video, 3-D animation, graphics design, web art, templates, icons, how-to techniques, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews (including software and hardware)
  • Literature: fiction, non-fiction literary articles, poetry, screenplays, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews
  • Crafts: textile & fashion design, architecture, landscaping, decorative crafts including interior decoration and furnishings, paper-making, jewelry-making, props and stage setting, how-to techniques, artist's biography or contribution to the field, critiques, reviews
  • Community and Culture: general articles and reviews highlighting cultural practices and the place of the arts in society as well as history
  • News: articles and reviews regarding arts education, policies, changes in the various fields, upcoming events and their coverage
